...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT THIS AFTERNOON FOR MIDLAND AND ECTOR
COUNTIES AND ALONG THE RIO GRANDE IN THE BIG BEND...
.The combination of an upper ridge over the area... very warm
temperatures aloft... near unrestricted solar heating... and
the surface wind becoming west/southwest will result in high
temperatures this afternoon well over 100 degrees across much of
West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. All area residents should
use caution if out in the heat for extended periods of time this
afternoon. Midland and Ector counties may reach heat advisory
criteria around 105 degrees this afternoon... as well as readings
of 110 or more degrees along the Rio Grande in the Big Bend.
Similar conditions may be possible Friday afternoon.
...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 8 PM CDT
The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a Heat
Advisory, which is in effect from 2 PM this afternoon to 8 PM CDT
* TEMPERATURE...Highs around 105 for Midland and Ector Counties.
Highs of 110 or more along the Rio Grande in the Big Bend.
* IMPACTS...Use caution with any outdoor activities. Prolonged
heat exposure combined with physical activity can cause heat
exhaustion and heat stroke.
A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned
room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and

possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible
and drink plenty of water.
